The Wednesday (oops, Friday) What: Jan. 31
Can we just get a New Year Relaunch?
In 2018, I cried at least once a day. I knew our family was making the move back to the USA, but I refused to be happy about it. My soul grieved heavy, hot tears from my already tired body.
It’s 3am and I’m heading to a girls trip tomorrow with my little Mastermind group, and I honestly can’t even tell you why I started this newsletter with a throwback to my 2018 tears.
It probably has something to do with the fact that January was one big bloop:
10 days stuck in the house with 4 kids and 2 dogs
29 days STRAIGHT of Gavin working
622 unread text messages
200,000 steps on my new treadmill
(PS It’s Friday now and even as I write this in segments, February is already looking up.)
THERE WERE TEARS JANUARY, OKAY.
But I’m desperately trying to find my writing rhythms again. And while I have 3 heavier pieces of writing in process, this little Wednesday break is a welcomed ease.
If I can ever get it pushed out on Wednesday, that is.
Remember the rundown? Here we go!
1. Something to learn.
We’ve been in the depths of a Holy Spirit study in on Sunday mornings, and I have been wildly encouraged by the hunger folks have for recognizing the way God moves about us in supernatural ways.
I just discovered the Maybe God podcast, and this episode was especially fascinating to hear an academic account for modern-day miracles using the best evidence-based research methodology you could apply to…the mystic.
I subscribed, and I think you’ll like these discussions, too!
I was also honored to attend a book reading with Michael Wear, whose latest book, The Spirit of Politics, just came out. Jon Ward has been offering fantastic reviews of the book, so here’s my nod to another substack subscription if you haven’t found John’s work. It will spirit tingle all you moderate and nuanced love babies of mine.
2. Something to eat.
Since my Mastermind group has flown in from California, Iowa, Alabama, and Georgia, I’m playing a bit of a hostess role in this great city of Nashville.
Last night we ate at The Pharmacy, tonight we’ll dress up for Pinewood Social, but in my own perfect world, we’d eat our way up and down Nolensville Road and try every immigrant-owned restaurant. From Peruvian, Israeli, Indian…it’s all here. I can’t wait for lunch today at DegThai!
3. Something to wear.
You know I’m in an unabashed love triangle with ABLE and slow fashion. There’s an online sale and a Valentine’s sale going on right now, so I had to tell you…PLUS drop down to meet me there tomorrow!
4. Somewhere to meet.
Come on out, Middle Tennessee! We will all be ABLE’s flagship store tomorrow night at 7PM and would LOVE to see you.
ABLE is offering leather freebies, snacks and drinks, and exclusive discounts. Come join us and squeeze my neck PLEASEEEEEEEEE!
Until next week in my healthier February rhythms, friends…
